It was a very good program, but a bit of work to set up. I used Quicken quite a bit ten years ago, and in those days I entered my receipts manually, had spent a lot of time setting categories and automatic transfers, etc. Interesting that I'm going to be one of the only ones to say something positive about Quicken Essentials.

I agree with the post who suggested the underlying problem is that Quicken must be built on a mess of spaghetti code that they can neither upgrade in a satisfactory modular way nor port to the other major platform (Mac OS).

Being forced to run it in a virtual Windows environment on the Mac is really absurd. In fact, Quicken for Windows is barely usable as ponderous as it is. So, various light weight solutions are not usable.

I am talking from the perspective of people who have needs for serious financial software with a variety of complications including stock portfolios, foreign accounts, real estate, etc., etc. maybe the IRS had something to say about that. You will note that their tax software actually works well on a Mac - I wonder why. It may even require, God help us, government intervention to break this monopoly and get some reasonable financial software. The fact that Intuit has a virtual monopoly on financial software is a serious problem. There is no excuse for a Windows only implementation of this extremely important class of software. They appear driven by B-school graduates who have no clue about software and about what services people actually need and who have created a total mess of silly add ons that are intended to increase revenue. I do agree that Flash is bad news and Apple is doing the right thing.īut, as for Intuit, they are incompetents of the highest order.

Review the Import OFX, QFX, QIF, CSV and MT940 files from banks or other applications guide to see how to set up MoneyWiz before you import your data to MoneyWiz.I have no animosity for Adobe - they actually do some good stuff. That’s it! Once you have all files ready you can start importing to MoneyWiz. Repeat the above for each of your accounts, mind the filename and to uncheck the “Include Scheduled Transactions” check-box on each import.

The mechanism used by Quicken Essentials for scheduled transaction is quite different from the one in MoneyWiz and importing scheduled transactions won’t work. “Include Scheduled Transaction” – uncheck this option. Usually the easiest thing is to save the files to the Desktop or in a newly created folder on the Desktop.Įxport: Leave this to the default option – “All Visible Transactions”. Select Save Location: You can choose any location that you want. The QXF file format is Quicken’s proprietary format and cannot be read by MoneyWiz. Go to File > Export > Export Transactions to CSV file. Just click on the account name in the side panel and then proceed to the next step. Select the first account, you want to export, from the left hand side panel.

Please note that if you don’t import all accounts, the other accounts might not come up with the correct balances, because of the transfers between them and the accounts you haven’t imported. For the accounts to come up with the right balance after the import they need to have their Opening Balance set as of the date of the first transaction that you will be importing. You would need this information when creating your account in MoneyWiz. Quicken Essentials for Mac can export accounts to separate CSV files.īefore starting to export your accounts, please take a note of their Opening Balance. We have a lot of clients coming from Quicken Essentials for Mac and the import works well for them.
